Why Automotive matters in Uttarakhand's schools

Every town in Uttarakhand has a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler workshop, and every one of them needs trained hands. The automotive trade gives students the basic skills — servicing, fault-finding, workshop safety — that make them employable the day they leave school. Bageshwar (15) and Tehri (17) carry more than half of the posts.

The teacher runs the school's automotive workshop: engine and vehicle system demonstrations, routine service drills, tool discipline and safety. In senior classes the curriculum now includes electric vehicle servicing, which is arriving in the hills faster than most expect.

What students learn

  • Vehicle systems — engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electricals
  • Routine servicing: oil, filters, tyres, batteries, basic tune-ups
  • Fault diagnosis and use of workshop tools and equipment
  • Two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler service practice
  • Electric vehicle basics and service safety (senior classes)
  • Workshop safety, housekeeping and customer interaction
